Intro to Art
Course Length: 1 Year
Course Credit: 2 Credits
Course Description:
This is an art fundamentals course, and must be taken before selecting advanced art classes. This course is primarily for students in the 9th grade, but may also be taken during the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.  The course utilizes a variety of materials and techniques, including both two and three-dimensional art experiences. Color theory and design principles and elements are emphasized throughout the various assignments. Major project units include basic drawing, painting, lettering, sculpture, ceramics, printing and art history.
  
Drawing-Painting 1
Prerequisite: Intro to Art
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
Drawing experiences include still-life compositions, contour and gesture drawing, one and two point perspective, and landscape and/or architectural drawing. Drawing media will include inks, pencil, colored pencil, chalk, washes, and mixed media. Painting experiences will use such media as watercolors, tempera, and acrylics as students explore basic painting techniques and fundamentals.
  
Drawing-Painting 2
Prerequisite: Drawing/Painting I
Course Length: 1 Semester

Course Description:
Students taking this course will work on more advanced drawing and painting aspects, such as color theory, advanced composition studies, figure studies, as well as be encouraged to develop their own personal drawing and painting styles. In addition to the media included in level 1, pastels, oils, collage, and other mixed media may also be used.
  
Drawing-Painting 3
Prerequisite: Drawing/Painting I and II
Course Length:1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
Students in this course will be able to work in depth on drawing and painting projects that both the students and instructor agree upon.
  
Ceramics 1
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
This course provides basic experience in both hand-building and wheel throwing. Those students interested in wheel work only will be expected to refine those skills introduced in Art Intro., such as centering, opening, pulling, and shaping. Students interested in hand-building will be working with two basic methods of slab and coil construction. Various problems and projects will be assigned by the instructor. Students will also be expected to be proficient in the basic ceramic vocabulary by the end of the course.
  
Ceramics 2
Prerequisite: Ceramics I
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
Students at this level will be expected to expand upon the basic ceramic vocabulary learned at level I, and to familiarize themselves with pottery of other cultures.
Students doing wheel work will spend time working toward continued refinement in pottery shapes, and will learn to make lids, spouts, and handles.
  
Ceramics 3
Prerequisite: Ceramics II
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
Students taking the course at this level may concentrate on their particular ceramic strengths, and will be expected to produce a prescribed number of projects for the semester in accordance with their skills.
  
Crafts 1
Prerequisite: Intro to Art
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description: 
Students taking the course at this level may concentrate on their particular ceramic strengths, and will be expected to produce a prescribed number of projects for the semester in accordance with their skills.
Design elements and principles, as well as craftsmanship will be emphasized in the project units of this course. Though students will be working in project units, a great variety of techniques and cultures will be explored. The basic units covered include: Egyptian, Native American, Central American, South American, African, and Asian Art.
  
Crafts 2
Prerequisite: Crafts I
Course Length: 1 Semester

Course Description:
This course involves the enhancement of skills in Crafts I. Students may choose from a variety of teacher recommended projects.
  
Design-Graphics 1
Prerequisite: Intro to Art
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
The major skills learned in this course are design elements and principles. Several specific design projects will be required by the instructor; however, students will also be able to select additional projects from various units as time permits. Commercial Design, Fabric and Paper Design, Three-Dimensional Design, Costume or Fashion Design and printmaking are many of the techniques you may explore.
  
Design-Graphics 2
Prerequisite: Design/Graphics I
Course Length: 1 Semester
Course Credit: 1 Credit
Course Description:
This course is a continuation of Design/Graphics I. In the design phase students taking this course a second time may pick up design units they were unable to find time for in the basic course. Since print making is seen as a continuing process of exploration, students working in this area will also have a chance to become more involved in developing their skills in the various processes.
