English 1 /Grammar 1/ Short Story
Course Length: 1 Semester
Credit:1 Credit
Description: 
Grammar 1 provides a review of grammar usage.  In the short-story study, students will read American and British  stories.  During the year several papers including research papers will be written.

English 1 /Grammar 1/Mythology/Novel
Course length:1 Semester
Credit:1 Credit
Description: 
In this course students will read many different plays and novels.  The topics include mythology, drama, history of the theater, and dramatic techniques.  The Shakespearean play Romeo and Juliet is one of the plays that will be read.  The students will also read a novel that they will pick out on their own and will write essays about their novels.

Advanced English 2
Course Length:1 Semester
Credit:1 Credit
Description: 
Grammar will be explored with an emphasis on verbal and comma usage.  Students will learn to use complex sentences, compound sentences, and verbals in their writing.  The students will also be reading Julius Caesar and poetry.  They will also write several papers, including a mini- research paper. Several short presentations will be required.

Regular English 2 /Grammar 2/ Poetry/ Medieval Literature/Drama

Description: 
Grammar 2 is a review of grammar 1.  Students will learn to improve their writing and speaking by using compound sentences, complex sentences, and verbals.  The students will read Julius Caesar, and they will read many poems as well.  Many essays and a mini research paper will be written.

Regular English 2- Literature/ Rhetoric/ Novel

In this course students will read several novels and write about them. 

Advanced English 3

Description: 
Students will be assigned many writing projects including a research paper.  Many American authors will be studied in all genres-poetry, short story, essay, novel, and drama.  This course will also concentrate on preparing for the PSAE-ACT tests.

Regular English 3- American Literature/ Composition
Course Length: 1 Year
Credits:2 Credits
Description: 
Students will be assigned many writing projects of various lengths and types.  They will study many important American authors in all genres.  Students will also study basic grammar skills in a more in-depth study and prepare for the PSAE-ACT tests.

Regular English 4
Course Length:1 Year

Description: 
Students will study British literature and develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  In this course students will experience much independent study. They will have to demonstrate academic responsibility.

Speech
Course Length:1 Semester

Description: 
In this course students will learn how to organize, support, and speak in public.  They will  present a variety of speeches in the classroom.

Advanced Placement English
Course Length:1 Year
Credit:2 Credits
Description: 
This course is to give college-bound students a final practice in theme- writing and literary analysis.  Students will study British history, literature, grammar, vocabulary, and writing.  They will do essay tests and research papers, and students will be able to take the advanced placement test in May.

Dual Credit English Composition 101
Course Length:1 Semester
Credit:1 Credit
Description:  
This course focuses on writing essays with a solid thesis, substantial support, and ideal organization.   If they receive an A or B, they will get KC credit.

Journalism 1,2,3,4
Course Length:1 Year
Credit:2 Credits
Description: 
In this course students will produce the school yearbook.  Students will learn journalistic writing, layout design, picture taking, and meeting deadlines.  Students will also be required to sell ads and promote yearbook sales.
